Sparkman and Stephens presented the design for the first Hinckley Pilot in 1945. The Hinckley Company of Southwest Harbor, Maine bought the plans and elongated the hull and increased the sail area. The New Pilot was advertised as "the ultimate in combining livability, seaworthiness and speed". We feel that tradition still embodies "Osprey". Osprey ties up in the inner harbor of Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island at our private marina known as Up Harbor Marine. Our facilities include laundry and showers as well as an expansive private deck and Art Gallery and home to The Bass Harbor Yacht Club. Sailing Osprey, sporting a 2005 carbon fiber mast, out of Bass Harbor will find you in the optimal cruising grounds of Blue Hill, Jericho & Penobscot Bays with a wide variety of island anchorages. A Trinka sailing dinghy carries you easily to shore, exploring the islands and settling back on board for a sunset dinner. We highly recommend the Maine Island Trail Association's network of island trails that dot the bays and harbors, every island has something special to offer!
